India is the second-largest producer of rice in the world. India grows more than 6,000 varieties of rice, including white and brown rice.
Rice is grown in areas having more than average rainfall. It is majorly a Kharif crop, sown in June-July in most of the regions.

There are various methods of sowing rice, but majorly two of them are used.
1. Direct Seeding Method
2. Transplanting Method
Let us compare both methods with some points.
1. Transplanted rice -
Labour intensive
Seeds need to be germinated first in nursery beds.
Transplanting done by hands or with the help of transplanters which are complex in operation.
Proper germination requires special pre-transplanting care.
2. Direct Seeded Rice -
Seeds are sown directly in the field.
Broadcasted or seeded with the help of direct rice seeder.
Get competition from weeds in the early period of growth.
With the development of new varieties, farmers are adopting direct seeding methods nowadays.
For maintaining sowing distance and depth, farmers use direct seeder machine. Common direct seeding varieties are Rajendra Saraswati, Rajendra Bhagawati, Gangotri, Swarn Sub-1.
Some problems which come with direct-seeded rice are excessive weeds and insufficient moisture.
What do you think about these two methods?
